Beautiful embroidered Kashmiri pashmina woven from the finest cashmere with a hint of silk to create a most amazingly soft and floaty fabric. The silk gives the fabric a wonderful lustre and smoothness which is extremely soft to handle and drapes beautifully. The natural cashmere 'warp' thread and pink hand-loomed 'weft' thread create a subtle two-tone finish, like dappled sunlight. Embroidered in the Ganderbal district in Kashmir, the embroidery for this piece will have taken three months to finish.

The pashmina was completed in September 2019 and is one of 12 pashminas in a range called 'The Colours of Sunrise', the particular colours used on this shawl were inspired by red morning skies and golden sunlight over the mountains.

The cashmere used in this shawl comes from Changthangi goats in Leh, Ladakh where temperatures can reach minus 35 degrees during winter in this cold desert region of the Himalayas. The cashmere from this region is considered amongst the best in the world, it is combed from the chest and underbelly of the goats. and is light and warm with amazing insulating properties, the fibres are extremely fine, varying between 9 - 16 microns.

Accompanying your shawl is 'The Kashmir Shawl', a book that beautifully illustrates the 'landscape and lives' that contribute to the creation of these amazing shawls, enriching your appreciation for this artisanal work.
